雍正年間以前，大溪地區是泰雅族的勢力範圍。嘉慶二十三年(1818年)，板橋林家舉家遷徙至此，在他們的開發下，原本的農業聚落轉型為商業市街。進入日治時期後，在大正八年(1919年)實施市街改正，有眾多店家的和平路一帶，成了主要改建重點。而在這波改建當中，向日本人學習過泥匠技藝的陳旺來、陳三川兄弟，將常用於廟宇的剪黏與交趾燒應用在牌樓厝的立面上，引來其他人爭相仿效，而使得大溪老街的街屋充滿了繁複的裝飾。

部落客心得：陳師兄素肉圓擁有天下第一圓之稱，大溪老街內的好味道~由於店家使用慢火慢炸，所以你在吃肉圓的軟皮不會有太多油膩感，而是吃到Q彈帶些咬勁的滋味。翻開內餡也非常實在，豆類品配上筍乾、素肉、香菇，咬上每一口都相當有滋味。

大溪老街 普濟堂
